Today, June 21, Tony Award nominee Norm Lewis was the guest of honor at a private luncheon benefitting The Actor's Fund. Producer Randie Levine-Miller is launching a new celebrity luncheon series to benefit the Fund and their efforts to support talent. Tony nominee Norm Lewis, currently starring on Broadway as Porgy in The Gershwins' PORGY AND BESS, joined the legendary walls of Sardi's when his caricature was unveiled and hung yesterday, May 30th, during a special ceremony. His portrait joins the hundreds of Broadway and Hollywood celebrities, including his co-star and fellow 2012 Tony nominee Audra McDonald, as well as co-star David Alan Grier also Tony-nominated for his performance in The Gershwins' PORGY AND BESS.

PFLAG National honored Broadway stars Audra McDonald (THE GERSHWINS' PORGY AND BESS, PRIVATE PRACTICE) and Will Swenson (PRISCILLA QUEEN OF THE DESERT, HAIR) with the 2012 Straight for Equality in Entertainment Award, presented at the Fourth Annual Straight for Equality Awards Gala on April 2nd at the Marriott Marquis Times Square.

Two-time Tony Award-winner Matthew Broderick and three-time Tony Award nominee Kelli O'Hara star in NICE WORK IF YOU CAN GET IT, featuring music and lyrics by George Gershwin and Ira Gershwin. The production will begin performances on Broadway today, March 29, 2012 and officially open on Tuesday, April 24, 2012 at the Imperial Theatre. Yesterday, NICE WORK's neighbors at PORGY AND BESS welcomed the show to Broadway. Producers of The Gershwins' PORGY AND BESS just announced that thanks to a generous donation from the families of George and Ira Gershwin, 2,250 high school students from New York City Public Schools will be coming to see the show on Wednesday matinees from March through May. The event kicked off yesterday, March 13, with a special event that involved both cast members and teachers and city officials. A long-standing opening night tradition on the Great White Way, the fabled Gypsy Robe is bestowed upon a veteran Broadway chorus member for each opening production. On August 31, American Repertory Theatre opened The Gershwins' PORGY AND BESS. Written by Ira Gershwin, George Gershwin, DuBose and Dorothy Heyward, the A.R.T. production features an adaptation by Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright Suzan-Lori Parks and Obie Award-winning composer Diedre L. Murray. It is directed by A.R.T. Artistic Director Diane Paulus, with choreography by Ronald K. Brown. The show began previews on August 17 and is planning a Broadway transfer this winter. The production is scheduled to begin previews at the Richard Rogers Theatre on December 17, 2011 in anticipation of a January 12, 2012 Broadway opening.
