Canadian Opera Company Ensemble Studio Welcomes Four New Performers for 2014-15 Season

The Canadian Opera Company Ensemble Studio, Canada's premier training program for young opera professionals, welcomes four talented new Canadian artists for the 2014/2015 season. Soprano Karine Boucher, tenor Jean-Philippe Fortier-Lazure and bass-baritone Iain MacNeil were among the nine finalists featured in the third annual Ensemble Studio Competition in November 2013. Boucher, Fortier-Lazure andMacNeil were top prize winners at the competitive vocal showcase which was the feature event of the COC's inaugural Ensemble Studio Competition Gala, Centre Stage, an evening dedicated to the discovery and celebration of the next generation of opera stars. In addition to the three opera singers, the 14/15 Ensemble Studio welcomes pianist Jennifer Szeto.

The CW Network has acquired LABYRINTH, the four-hour event miniseries with a multi-national and award-winning cast, including John Hurt, Sebastian Stan, Jessica Brown-Findlay & Tom Felton, it was announced today by Mark Pedowitz, President, The CW. Premiere night and time will be announced at a later date.

In the newly released book series, The Gold House trilogy, authors John Clarence and Tom Whittle allege that in the summer of 1961 the U.S. Attorney General, Secretary of the Interior, and high-ranking army officers reportedly met at a private residence in Alamogordo, New Mexico. Their purpose, according to an eyewitness: to gather information about a vast hoard of gold bars and ancient artifacts at a remote site named Victorio Peak situated on a nearby military installation. In July that summer the treasure was placed under the control of the U.S. Attorney General. In book two of the trilogy, authors Clarence and Whittle present an official July 31, 1961 transcribed phone conversation between the commanding general at the nearby installation and the Director of Silver & Gold Operations at the U.S. Mint that exposed an approved army operation to search for and remove the gold.

"Puff the Magic Dragon" singer-songwriter Peter Yarrow and Pulitzer Prize winning musicians eighth blackbird both perform in the next two weeks at the Kirkland Performance Center. There's also a world premier new work by Seattle-based Khambatta Dance Co. and hilarious political commentary with Mark Russell. As Frances Ruffelle wrote in her column for The Huffington Post, she was recently invited to a private party at Cameron Mackintosh's home and mingled with 'some of the world's top theatre creatives' such as Stephen Sondheim, Les Miserables film director Tom Hooper and the original Les Miserables theatre directors Trevor Nunn and John Caird. In a 'deliciously memorable moment', she introduced Hooper to Nunn and Caird, and 'they looked like they were getting on famously.'
