National Alliance for Musical Theatre has revealed the roster of new musicals for their 35th Annual FESTIVAL OF NEW MUSICALS, which returns in person and takes place on Thursday, October 26 and Friday, October 27, 2023, at New World Stages.

The Gertrudes are Meghan Balogh (fiddle, vocals), Pete Bowers (drums), Annie Clifford (fiddle, vocals), August Erb (electric guitar), Jason Erb (keys, bass, vocals), Mariah “Mo” Horner (vocals), Josh Lyon (accordion, keys, bass), Matt Rogalsky (electric guitar, vocals), Greg Tilson (acoustic guitar, vocals) and includes next generation Gertrudes.

I've been a fan of Hadestown since its concept album release in 2010. With music and lyrics by Anaïs Mitchell, the album featured vocals by Mitchell herself alongside the likes of Justin Vernon and Ani DiFranco. Called a 'folk opera' at the time, this album laid the foundation for what would become the 2019 Tony-winning Broadway musical Hadestown.

Singer-songwriter Abraham Alexander’s highly anticipated debut album, SEA/SONS, is due for release on Dualtone Records. In anticipation of the forthcoming record—which features appearances by Mavis Staples and Gary Clark Jr.—Alexander is sharing the new single “Tears Run Dry” alongside a video.

The recording is taken from the documentary film and soundtrack Take Me to the River: New Orleans, which celebrates the rich musical history, the heritage, legacy, and influence of New Orleans and Louisiana music through live sessions with local artists. “Stompin’ Ground” was produced by the film’s director Martin Shore and Eric Krasno.
