According to The Hollywood Reporter, Broadway vet John Schneider is set to star in the upcoming feature film Doonby, which will be directed and written by British filmmaker Peter Mackenzie.

THR states that Schneider will play Sam Doonby, "a happy-go-lucky drifter who takes up residence in a small Texas town but seems suspiciously immune to the misfortunes that beset the other townsfolk." Director Peter Mackenzie tells THR that "in some ways, 'Doonby' is a modern-day retelling of 'It's a Wonderful Life,' but with a little more edge."

The Hollywood Reporter reports that Tommy Warren and Mark Joseph will produce the film. Robert Davi, Joe Estevez, Jennifer O'Neill, Ernie Hudson and Jenn Gotzon are set to star alongside Schneider in the film.

John Schneider is a celebrated star of stage and screen, in addition to being an accomplished recording artist and philanthropist. Television audiences will quickly recognize Schneider from his roles in "Nip/Tuck," "Smallville," and as Bo Duke in the internationally acclaimed television series "The Dukes of Hazzard." This March, he will appear in the new HBO drama series "12 Miles of Bad Road."

Also an accomplished guitar player, singer and songwriter, Schneider has released a total of 11 solo albums. In the early '90s, he made his Broadway stage debut as Felix Von Gaigern in the Tony-nominated musical Grand Hotel. His other stage credits include The Will Rogers Follies, Brigadoon, The Music Man, The Civil War and a production of Mame at the Hollywood Bowl.
