Deadline reports that Ewan McGregor has signed on to star in the upcoming crime thriller SON OF A GUN. The film will be shot on location in Australia beginning in early 2013. Julius Avery penned the script and will make his directorial debut on the film.

SON OF A GUN follows "the complex relationship between McGregor's public enemy number one character and his young protégé."

McGregor is currently shooting the film adaptation of Tracy Lett's 'August: Osage County' opposite Meryl Streep and Julia Roberts. This December he will be seen in the drama 'The Impossible'. The actor is best known for his roles as heroin addict Mark Renton in the drama Trainspotting (1996), Jedi Obi-Wan Kenobi in the Star Wars prequel trilogy (1999-2005), poet Christian in the musical film Moulin Rouge! (2001), and storyteller Edward Bloom in Tim Burton's Big Fish (2003). He has also received critical acclaim for his starring roles in theatre productions of Guys and Dolls and Othello.
