The Canadian Opera Company launches its 2013/2014 season with a new production of one of the world's greatest love stories, La Bohème. Puccini's masterpiece of youthful flirtation, passionate love and heartbreaking tragedy returns to the COC for 12 performances at the Four Seasons Centre for the Performing Arts on October 3, 6, 9, 12, 16, 18, 19, 22, 25, 27, 29, 30, 2013.

Due to an at-capacity run of Opera Columbus and Shadowbox Live's cabaret-style version of Puccini's La boheme in 2012, the collaborative production will be remounted for a 2013 run tonight, February 17-April 14. Cast with local performers, it will be funded by a grant from PNC Arts Alive, a multi-year initiative to support visual and performing arts groups with the goal of increasing arts access and engagement in new and innovative ways.

Houston Grand Opera is opening its 2012-2013 season with a lavish and fresh production of one of the world's favorite operas, LA BOHÈME by Giacomo Puccini. The familiar opera tells the story of four bohemian artists that live in the same garret (apartment) in 1830s Paris. The poet, Rodolfo, falls for Mimi, a seamstress suffering from Tuberculosis. His friend Marcello, a painter, has recently broken up with Musetta, but is still fascinated by her. In a series of short glimpses into their lives, the audience sees Rodolfo and Mimi fall into a deep, passionate love that is eventually troubled and torn asunder by Rodolfo's jealousies and concerns about her health.

OperaUpClose's La Bohème has become the world's longest continuously running opera, after six months in Kilburn and a six week season at Soho Theatre (where it returns for another six weeks in January), meeting with great critical acclaim. This intimate staging has been wowing consistently sold-out houses with comedy, pathos, and its unique Act 2 - performed in the bar amongst locals and audience alike - described by the New York Times as 'one of the most ingenious stagings ever devised'.
