Javier Munoz to Play Usnavi in IN THE HEIGHTS

Kevin McCollum, Jeffrey Seller and Jill Furman, the producers of the 2008 Tony Award-winning Best Musical In The Heights, announced today that Javier Munoz will take over the role of 'Usnavi' on Monday, February 16, 2009 at the Richard Rodgers Theatre (226 West 46th Street). Javier Munoz joined In The Heights for a reading in 2005 and has been involved ever since, in the ensemble and as understudy for ?Usnavi? at the O?Neill Theater Workshop and in the 2006 Off-Broadway and current Broadway productions. Lin-Manuel Miranda?s last performance will be Sunday February 15, 2009.

On Wednesday, Jan 14th following the 8 pm performance of IN THE HEIGHTS - Ghostlight Records and ITH hosted a 'Grammy Night' Talkback. 100 Grammy University students as well as the Grammy board came to see the show and talk with the Tony winning creative team. The IN THE HEIGHTS album is nominated this year in the Best Musical Show Album. Tony winner Lin-Manuel Miranda lead the talk along with Alex Lacaimore and Bill Sherman, also Tony winners for their work on the show.
IN THE HEIGHTS opened to critical acclaim, going on to win four 2008 Tony Awards (Best Musical, Best Score, Best Choreography, Best Orchestrations), and garnering a 2008 Grammy Award nomination for the original cast album. In November, 2008, Universal Pictures acquired the rights to produce a feature film based on IN THE HEIGHTS.
The news of a 2009 GRAMMY Nomination for Best Musical Show Album, for their double-CD release of 'In The Heights' (already a Tony Award Winner for Best Musical and Best Score,) capped a dominant year for Ghostlight Records.

R.Evolucion Latina Sends 35 Students To IN THE HEIGHTS

35 students from the five boroughs will attend the 7pm performance of the 2008 Tony Award-winning best musical IN THE HEIGHTS at the Richard Rodgers Theatre (226 West 46th Street). Over the past year R.Evoluci?n Latina has been hosting workshops for New York City students to introduce them to the transformative powers of the performing arts. 35 students have been chosen from the past year's various R.Evoluci?n Latina educational workshops to attend their first Broadway show and meet the cast. At 6pm, the students will participate in a pre-show meet and greet and talk-back with the cast.

The New York City Council will honor the 2008 Tony Award-winning Best Musical IN THE HEIGHTS with a special Proclamation. Speaker Christine Quinn and NYC Councilmember Miguel Martinez and Councilmember Robert Jackson will present the Proclamation to IN THE HEIGHTS' producer Jill Furman and composer/leading actor Lin-Manuel Miranda for the show's success in introducing millions of people to the vibrant neighborhood and its residents situated at the top of the island of Manhattan. The event will take place on Thursday December 18th in the City Hall Chambers.
