The Weinstein Company Nabs Rights to Sundance Hit FRUITVALE

The film, which premiered at the Sundance Film Festival on Jan. 19, immediately sparked a bidding war between Fox Searchlight, Paramount Pictures, Focus Features, and CBS Films. Weinstein reportedly won out. FRUITVALE, directed and written by Ryan Coogler, tells the true story of Oscar, a 22-year-old Bay Area resident who crosses paths with friends, enemies, family and strangers The Day before he was shot to death by Oakland police officers. Michael B. Jordan (FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS,) Octavia Spencer (THE HELP,) Melonie Diaz, Ahna O'Reilly, Kevin Durand, and Chad Michael Murray star in the film. The film was produced by Forest Whitaker and his Significant Productions partner Nina Yang. |
