MAMA Takes Weekend Box Office with $28 Million

Her newest film, MAMA, produced by Guillermo Del Toro, claimed the top spot with $28.1 million. The other feature in which she stars, Kathryn Bigelow's ZERO DARK THIRTY, took in an additional $17.6M following its $24M opening last weekend, taking second place. The film, which follows the decade-long manhunt for Osama bin Laden, has now grossed $55.9M since it opened in limited theaters in December. SILVER LININGS PLAYBOOK, starring Bradley Cooper and Jennifer Lawrence, following its nationwide release on Friday, took in another $11.3M, raising its total to $55.3 million. Warner Bros.' GANGSTER SQUAD, led by an all-star cast including Ryan Gosling and Emma Stone, once again underperformed. The film, which took the fourth spot this weekend with $9.1M, now rests at $32.2M. 20th Century Fox's BROKEN CITY, with Mark Wahlberg and Russell Crowe, earned $9 million, rounding out the top five. Also notable, Arnold Schwarzenegger's return to the big screen, THE LAST STAND, grossly underwhelmed audiences. The film took in just $6.3 million, taking the tenth spot this weekend.
