Good news AVENGERS fans: the sequel's script is just about done.
"I've done the outline," director Joss Whedon told MTV. "I'm writing the script now and so the script should be done in a couple of months. I'm pretty excited about it, I have to say."
But the team's second outing won't be a re-hash of its first, he assures.
"[You] don't go bigger, go deeper," he said. "The grand thing is that all of these people have met so you have that out of the way. Now you can spend your time just digging in and by digging in, I mean with a scalpel, to cause pain."
Onec the script for the AVENGERS 2 is out of the way, the BUFFY THE VAMPIRE SLAYER creator will move on to directing the pilot for his AVENGERS sequel series, S.H.I.E.L.D for ABC.
The network is highly optimistic about Whedon's upcoming pilot:
"We fast-tracked that and we'll see it a lot earlier than the others," Lee said at the TCA winter press tour today. "We're very hopeful that's going to go to series...It's a great script."
S.H.I.E.L.D. stands for the Strategic HomelandIntervention, Enforcement and Logistics Division, a covert, quasi-military peace-keeping organization which was featured in this summer's AVENGERS movie, and is a long-time staple of the Marvel universe.
The ensemble pilot stars Ming-Na (ER), Clark Gregg (THE AVENGERS), Brett Dalton (KILLING LINCOLN), Elizabeth Henstridge, Ian De Caestecker, and Chloe Bennet (NASHVILLE.)
In "Marvel's The Avengers" the world's greatest Super Heroes assemble when Iron Man (Robert Downey, Jr.), Captain America (Chris Evans), Hulk (Mark Ruffalo), Thor (Chris Hemsworth), Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson) and Hawkeye (Jeremy Renner) join S.H.I.E.L.D.'s Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson) to protect the world from the dangerous and powerful villain, Loki (Tom Hiddleston).
