Summit Entertainment's WARM BODIES easily took the Super Bowl weekend box office with a solid $20 million.
In WARM BODIES, when a highly unusual zombie rescues a girl from imminent death at the hands of his cohorts, their unlikely romance sets in motion a chain of events that will transform him, his fellow dead, and maybe even the whole lifeless world.
Jonathan Levine directs the film which stars Nicholas Hoult, Teresa Palmer, Rob Corddry, John Malkovich, Analeigh Tipton, Dave Franco and Cory Hardrict.
The gorey fairytale spin, HANSEL AND GRETEL, with Jeremy Renner and Gemma Arterton, took the second spot following its tepid win last weekend, taking in $9.2 million, bumping its two-week total to $34.4 million.
Driven by its Oscar-buzz, Silver Linings Playbook came in third, grossing just over $8M. It's now made $80M since its initial limited release in December.
Jessica Chastain's two films out now, MAMA and ZERO DARK THIRTY, rounded out the top five. MAMA, produced by Guillermo Del Toro, made an additional $6.7M. It has now earned over $58 million since its release. Kathryn Bigelow's Zero Dark Thirty took in additional $5.3 million - it now sits at $77.7 million just a few weeks prior to Oscar night.
BULLET TO THE HEAD, starring Sylvester Stallone, was pretty much dead-on-arrival. The action flick took in only $4.5 million over the weekend.
