On November 29, 1954, Joel Coen, one-half of the Oscar-winning filmmaking team known as 'the Coen Brothers', was born in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Joel and Ethan Coen have made an indelible mark on the film industry, having made such hits as THE BIG LEBOWSKI, FARGO, NO COUNTRY FOR OLD MEN, and TRUE GRIT.
Coen is a celebrated writer, director, and producer, and in 2011, won an Oscar for 'Best Adapted Screenplay' for his work with his brother on NO COUNTRY FOR OLD MEN. Check out his acceptance speech below!
