Deadline reports that Universal Picturs is developing a contemporary remake of the classic feature film SCARFACE. Quiz Show scribe Paul Attanasio has signed on to pen the screenplay.SCARFACE was originally directed by Howard Hawks in 1932. The film told the story of a gangster's rise to power and was based on the 1929 Armitage Trail novel of the same name. In 1983, Brian De Palma released a modern take on the story. That film, which became the best known version of the story, starred actor Al Pacino in the lead.Producers Martin Bregma and Marc Shmuger (the former of which produced De Palma's version) are behind this latest adaptation which is expected to combine elements from both Hawks and De Palma's takes on the material.
