In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Paramount executive Adam Goodman has confirmed that a sequel to the 1986 blockbuster TOP GUN is officially in pre-production. Rumors that a sequel would be shot began to surface last year.
In the interview, Goodman was asked about the possibility of a fifth installment to the Mission: Impossible series and replied, "We'll likely make a Top Gun sequel with Tom Cruise first. Jerry Bruckheimer would produce, with Tony Scott returning to direct... All parties are moving ahead."
Peter Craig (The Town) is set to pen the script for the upcoming film. The original cast of TOP GUN included Cruise as Maverick, a cocky fighter pilot opposite Val Kilmer and Kelly McGillis. It also fetured Anthony Edwards, who would later go on to star in ER, Tim Robbins and Meg Ryan.
