THE HANGOVER, TWILIGHT: NEW MOON, And AVATAR Lead Noms For 2010 MTV Movie Awards

THE HANGOVER, TWILIGHT: NEW MOON, And AVATAR Lead Noms For 2010 MTV Movie Awards

The MTV fans have spoken! Voting their favorite motion pictures into the stratosphere for the "2010 MTV Movie Awards," film fans everywhere have made "The Hangover," "The Twilight Saga: New Moon" and "Avatar" this year's top nominated films. Fans can expect to see another cinematic fight to the finish as these three juggernauts battle some heavy competition from each other and from the two mega-movies nipping at their nominated heels: "The Proposal" and "Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince." Winner voting for the "2010 MTV Movie Awards" in 12 returning and brand-new categories begins today, Wednesday, May 12 at 12pm ET/9am PT at MovieAwards.MTV.com and closes Saturday, June 5. Aziz Ansari hosts the "2010 MTV Movie Awards" LIVE on Sunday, June 6 at 9pm ET/8pm C from the Gibson Amphitheatre in Universal City, CA.

Making this year's show another battle of the super-fans, the hit comedy "The Hangover" leads with six nominations; the blockbusters "The Twilight Saga: New Moon" and "Avatar," are neck-in-neck with five nods each; and audience favorites "The Proposal" and "Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince" are each up for four awards. "Team Edward" and "Team Jacob" -- make room for "Team Na'vi" as "The Twilight Saga" prepares to defend its popcorn statue legacy against "Avatar" in the "BEST MOVIE," "BEST KISS" and "BEST FEMALE PERFORMANCE" categories. Comedies get a little cut-throat too as stars of "The Proposal" Sandra Bullock and Betty White get in the faces of "The Hangover" stars Bradley Cooper, Zach Galifianakis and Ken Jeong in the "BEST WTF MOMENT" and "BEST COMEDIC PERFORMANCE" categories. Showing that fan loyalty of "The Twilight Saga" knows no limits, Kristen Stewart, Robert Pattinson and Taylor Lautner will go up against each other in the "GLOBAL SUPERSTAR" category and the men of "New Moon" will face-off against "Harry Potter" superstar Daniel Radcliffe for the "BEST MALE PERFORMANCE" award.

Nominees for the "2010 MTV Movie Awards" have the following to say about their nominations and the fans that voted:

"Six years ago I sat in the nosebleeds with my family watching the awards as a fan. Now I'm a nominee and we won't have to use binoculars to see the show." - Jake Abel, nominated in the "BEST FIGHT" category for the feature film "Percy Jackson and the Olympians: The Lightening Thief"

"I am so honored and very humbled by the nominations. Thank you to all the fans that voted for me and my penis." - Ken Jeong, nominated in the "BEST WTF MOMENT" and "BEST VILLAIN" categories for the feature film "The Hangover"

"I'm completely honored to be nominated for 'Breakout Star' and 'Best Fight.' I've been a fan of movies for as long as I can remember and it's really cool to think that the fans voted for me in the same categories that some of my own favorite actors were once nominated. Plus, who doesn't love Aziz Ansari!? I can't wait for the show, thank you to all of the fans who voted!" - Logan Lerman, nominated in the "BEST BREAKOUT STAR" and "BEST FIGHT" categories for the feature film "Percy Jackson and the Olympians: The Lightening Thief"

"The moment I heard it my heart jumped a little and oddly I have ALWAYS wanted golden popcorn!!" - Gabourey Sidibe, nominated in the "BEST BREAKOUT STAR" category for the feature film "Precious: Based on the Novel Push by Sapphire"
