Deadline.com reports that 20th Century Fox TV is planning a dramatic TV series based on Alex Garland's 1996 novel THE BEACH.
Garland's book is described as "a Generation X take on "Lord of the Flies"". It tells the story of a young traveller in Bangkok who meets a strange Scotsman who tells him of a hidden beach on an island in the Gulf of Thailand which cannot be accessed by tourists. However, with the help of a young couple from France, the boy not only uncovers the mysterious beach, but finds a self-sufficient community that has been completely cut off from civilization.
The series will be penned by 'The Secret Circles' AnDrew Miller. Danny Boyle directed the big screen adaptation of the book in 2000 which starred Leonardo Di Caprio, Tilda Swinton and Guillaume Canet.
