Variety reports that Steve Carrell and Toni Collette have been cast in the new film, THE WAY, WAY BACK. Directed by Jim Rash and Nat Faxon, the story is about a teenage boy who struggles with his cheating stepfather (played by Carell) and absent-minded mother (played by Collette) during a summer vacation.
Also cast are Broadway favorite Allison Janney, Sam Rockwell and AnnaSophia Robb. Kevin Walsh is the producer. Production will begin in this summer.
Steve Carrell has starred in the films The 40-Year-Old Virgin, Little Miss Sunshine, Evan Almighty, Dan in Real Life, Get Smart, Date Night, Dinner for Schmucks, and Crazy, Stupid, Love.; and voiced characters in the animated films Over the Hedge, Horton Hears a Who!, and Despicable Me. Carell eceived a Golden Globe Award for Best Actor in a Television Comedy Series for playing the lead role of Michael Scott for The Office in 2006.
Toni Collette has starred in films such as Spotswood (1992) and Muriel's Wedding (1994), for which she was nominated for a Golden Globe Award for Best Actress. She received an Academy Award-nomination for The Sixth Sense, and will be reunited with Steve Carrell who performed alongside her in Little Miss Sunshine (2006).
In 1998, Janney was nominated for a Tony Award for her role in Arthur Miller's 'A View from the Bridge'. Her first Broadway role was in 'Present Laughter' opposite Frank Langella. In May 2009, she won the Drama Desk Award for Outstanding Actress in a Musical for the role of Violet Newstead in '9 to 5'.
