Variety reports that Stephen King's 1985 novella GRAMMA is currently being developed into a fantasy-horror feature film to be titled 'Mercy.' According to the report, Universal Pictures and producer Jason Blum ("Paranormal Activity") will team up on the project. King's short story was first published in Weirdbook magazine in 1984, and collected in King's 1985 collection Skeleton Crew. Certain characters, creatures and unearthly powers featured in the works of H.P. Lovecraft also appear in this story, making it a story set in the Cthulhu Mythos. The story follows "two young boys who, along with their single mother (Frances O'Connor), take care of their elderly, senile grandmother. They discover she's a witch who made a deal with a dark force years beforehand."
Peter Cornwell ("The Haunting in Connecticut") will helm the project with a script by Matt Greenberg ("1408"). Blum, McG and Mary Viola will produce.
