Stephen Fry to Host 2012 BAFTA Awards, 2/12

Orange-British-Academy-Film-Awards-Winners-to-be-Announced-at-Royal-Albert-Hall-212-20010101

The wait is over as the Orange British Academy Film Awards winners will be announced at a star-studded ceremony at London’s Royal Opera House on February 12th at the Royal Albert Hall in London.

World-renowned actors, actresses and film-makers will be gracing the red carpet this year for what is the biggest event of the UK film calendar. Stephen Fry will be the host at this year’s Awards.

The Artist leads the field with 12 nominations, Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy is nominated in 11 categories, Hugo has nine nominations, My Week with Marilyn has six nominations and The Help and War Horse are each nominated five times.

In the running for the coveted title of Best Film are The Artist, Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy, The Descendants, The Help and Drive.

Michelle Williams, nominated for Leading Actress for My Week with Marilyn, will be competing against Tilda Swinton for We Need to Talk about Kevin; Viola Davis for The Help; Berenice Bejo for The Artist and Meryl Streep for The Iron Lady.

In the frame for the leading actor BAFTA are: Brad Pitt for Moneyball; Michael Fassbender for his performance in Shame; Jean Dujardin for The Artist; George Clooney for The Descendants and Gary Oldman for Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy.

And up for best director are: Michel Hazanavicius (The Artist); Nicolas Winding Refn (Drive); Martin Scorsese (Hugo); Tomas Alfredson (Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy) and Lynne Ramsay (We Need to Talk About Kevin).

This year’s award ceremony will also see the seventh year of the Orange Wednesdays Rising Star Award. The only Award voted for by the public, it is presented to a young actor or actress who has demonstrated exceptional talent and ambition and who has captured the imagination of the British public as a film star in the making. This year’s nominees are Adam Deacon, Chris Hemsworth, Chris O’Dowd, Eddie Redmayne and Tom Hiddleston.

Former winners of the Orange Wednesdays Rising Star Award are Tom Hardy (2011), Kristen Stewart (2010), Noel Clarke (2009), Shia LaBeouf (2008), Eva Green (2007) and James McAvoy (2006).
