CINE, the film and television non-profit renowned for its Golden Eagle Awards, announced the winners of its inaugural Film Scoring Competition for Emerging Composers at the 2013 CINE Annual Awards Gala at the Lansburgh Theatre in Washington, DC on June 17. CINE also honored its winning filmmakers, and presented producers Albert Berger & Ron Yerxa with its Lifetime Achievement Award; David Lyle, CEO of the National Geographic Channels, with its Leadership Award; and Thom Beers, CEO of FremantleNorth America, with its Trailblazer Award.

"I'm truly excited to announce the two winners and one runner-up of CINE's inaugural film-scoring competition. Ken Pearson and Seth Tsui, our co-winners, and Robin Hall, our runner-up, created exemplary work and it was incredibly difficult for our judges to narrow the field. More than 50 entrants wrote beautiful scores to the 4 minute animated piece, created by Laszlo Ujvari. Narrowing the field to 10 semi-finalists was one of the toughest jobs I've ever had", said John Simson, CINE Board member and film scoring competition chair.

Each entering composer was tasked with scoring the same short CINE Golden Eagle-winning film, Virtus Vitae, by Mr. Ujvari, from which the original score, composed by the filmmaker, was removed with his permission. The 2 winners and runner-up each receive a spot on the roster of scoreAscore, (www.scoreAscore.com), which connects composers and content producers.

Guest judges were film composer Michael Brook, who scored The Fighter and The Perks of Being a Wallflower, among many other films, Michael A. Simpson, President & CEO of Informant Media, which produced Crazy Heart andHysteria, and producer and composer Brendan Canty of Trixie Films, who was also the drummer for the famed punk band Fugazi. All judging was anonymous.
