According to The Hollywood Reporter, Rooney Mara has joined the cast of the big-screen adaptation of Colm Toibins' BROOKLYN. The film will be based on the best-selling novel by author and screenwriter Nick Hornby. The actress will join previously announced cast members Pierce Brosnan, Toni Collette and Emile Hirschcast.
Mara will portray the lead role in Toibin's story set in the 1950's. The story will take place in both Brooklyn and Ireland and will follow a young woman who is "torn between her family in Ireland and the American who wins her heart."
The film is set to begin shooting in Spring 2013 on location in Brooklyn and Ireland. French filmmaker Pascal Chaumeil will direct.
Mara was recently seen in David Fincher's The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo alongside Daniel Craig. She will soon be seen in Lawless, directed by Terrence Malick and co-starring Cate Blanchett, Christian Bale, Ryan Gosling and Natalie Portman and the uupcoming The Bitter Pill from Steven Soderberg.
