Robert Redford's next gig might be a little unexpected.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the renowned actor and director is close to finalizing a deal to appear in the upcoming sequel to 2011's CAPTAIN AMERICA.
Sources have confirmed to the publication that Redford will "be playing an older member of secret government agency S.H.I.E.L.D."
Chris Evans will return for the sequel as Steve Rogers, aka Captain America. In addition, AVENGERS co-stars Samuel L. Jackson, Scarlett Johansson, and Cobie Smulders are set to appear. Anthony Mackie and Frank Grillo have also signed on. Joe and Anthony Russo are set to co-direct.
CAPTAIN AMERICA: THE WINTER SOLDIER, is set for an April 4, 2014 theatrical release.

Redford appeared on Broadway in the original 1963 production of Neil Simon's Barefoot in the Park. He had previously been seen in Sunday in New York, Little Moon of Alban, The Highest Tree and Tall Story. Redford has been Oscar-nominated for his performance in The Sting. He won an Oscar for directing Ordinary People and another directing nomination for Quiz Show. His many other films, as an actor, include Spy Game, Indecent Proposal, All the President's Men, The Great Gatsby, The Way We Were and Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid. He can next be seen in the film The Company You Keep, opposite Shia LaBeouf, in which he will also direct.
