Portland Ovations Will Present SING-ALONG-A SOUND OF MUSIC, 2/1; MOMIX: BOTANICA, 5/9

Portland Ovations Will Present SING-ALONG-A SOUND OF MUSIC, 2/1; MOMIX: BOTANICA, 5/9

Executive Director Aimée Petrin has announced that Portland Ovations has added two performances to its 2012-2013 season. The new performances are the crowd-participating and fun Sing-Along-A Sound of Music on February 1, 2013 and the revolutionary dance company MOMIX on May 9, 2013.

The first of the two additions, Sing-Along-A Sound of Music is an entertaining winter diversion happening on Friday, February 1 at Merrill Auditorium and features the full-length classic film Sound of Music with lyrics to every song up on the screen encouraging the entire crowd to sing along. The evening begins with a host leading the audience through a vocal warm-up, judging a costume competition (costumes are highly recommended but not required), awarding prizes, and showing the audience how to use their prop bags. This is a performance where the audience truly becomes the star of the show.

Portland Ovations also adds to its season the revolutionary dance company MOMIX, bringing their breathtaking work Botanica to the Merrill stage on May 9 for one performance only. MOMIX: Botanica is an unforgettable multimedia experience transporting audiences to a fantasy world of surreal images and childlike wonder brought to life through athletic dance, riveting music, outrageous costumes, inventive props, and pure talent. Choreographer Moses Pendleton's whimsical, fertile, and mythical imagination creates a vivid landscape of nature's changing imagery set to an eclectic score that ranges from birdsong to Vivaldi. This is dance at its most organic and inventive.

Tickets for Sing-Along-A Sound of Music are $14 general admission. Tickets for MOMIX: Botanica range from $27 to $40 for Ovations' Members and $30 to $44 for the general public. Tickets go on sale Friday, November 16. To purchase tickets, visit www.portlandovations.org, contact PortTIX at 207-842-0800 or stop by the box office window at Merrill Auditorium.

Each year since 1931, Portland Ovations brings a dynamic season of exceptional performing artists from around the world to Maine including classical music, jazz, opera, dance, theater, and Broadway national tours. In addition to live performances, Ovations brings the exhilaration of the performing arts out into our community with season-long educational and outreach activities known as Ovations Offstage. A Maine-based non-profit, Portland Ovations contributes to the cultural, social and economic well-being of our community by presenting an array of high quality performing artists from around the world and creating diverse educational experiences that bring the enjoyment, energy and enrichment of the arts to all.
