Pierce Brosnan has been announced as the lead in the film adaptation of Stuart Neville's THE GHOSTS OF BELFAST, retitled LAST MAN OUT for its big-screen treatment, it was announced today.
LAST MAN OUT follows a former IRA hitman who has just been released from prison after 20 years. Finally free, the former murderer is now haunted by the deaths of his victims, and will find no peace until he enacts revenge for those lost.
The screenplay was adapted for film by television's Craig Ferguson and Ted Mulkerin. Terry Loan is attached to direct and presales have begun in the European film market. Ferguson will produce alongside Steve Clark-Hall, Beau St. Clair, Rebecca Tucker, and Jonathan Loughran.
Casting is currently underway with no other actors named as of yet. Last Man Out is scheduled to begin shooting at the end of 2013.
Staurt Neville is the author of the Belfast trilogy, which includes Collusion, Stolen Souls, and The Ghosts of Belfast, winner of the 2010 Los Angeles Times Book Prize and the Spinetingler Award for Best First Novel, and a finalist for the Macavity Award, the Barry Award, and Anthony Award for Best First Novel. He lives in Armagh, Northern Ireland.
