The long-running Broadway musical LES MISERABLES, based on Victor Hugo's 19th-century French fable of social injustice, will come to the big screen on December 14th. BroadwayWorld brings you an exciting first look at the upcoming film below!
The film, under the direction of Tom Hooper will star Hugh Jackman as Jean Valjean, Sacha Baron Cohen as Thernardier, Eddie Redmayne as Marius, Aaron Tveit as Enjolras, Amanda Seyfried as Cosette, Samantha Barks as Eponine, and Helena Bonham Carter as Madame Thenardier. Original stage stars Colm Wilkinson, Frances Ruffelle and others will appear as well.
LES MISERABLES premiered on Broadway on March 12 1987 at The Broadway Theatre. Colm Wilkinson and Frances Ruffelle reprised their roles from the London production. The musical ran through October 1990, when it moved to the Imperial Theatre. After 6,680 performances in sixteen years, it closed on May 18 2003. Only three years after the original run closed, Les Misérables began a limited return to Broadway on November 9 2006 at the Broadhurst Theatre.
