JEWTOPIA, a new comedy film based on the Off-Broadway hit, will premiere on April 26 at the Newport Beach Film Festival. The story focuses on two friends, Adam Lipschitz (Joel David Moore) and his non-Jewish friend Christian (Ivan Sergei), both approaching their 30th birthdays. Gentile Chris is interested in dating a Jewish woman (Jennifer Love Hewitt) because he feels that she will make his life easier by making all of life's decisions for him. Adam wants to date Gentile women because he does not want to be reminded of his roots. The two team up and teach each other how to woo the women of their choice.
Complicating things are their well-meaning but intervening family and friends, played by an all-star cast including Rita Wilson, Tom Arnold, Jon Lovitz, Peter Stormare, Camryn Manheim, and Wendie Malick.
Commented the film's director Bryan Fogel, who also co-wrote the screenplay and the original stage play with Sam Wolfson, "Almost every person that I envisioned for these roles is actually playing the part in the film. We went to Rita Wilson first. She said ‘I think this film has the potential to be a new [My Big Fat] Greek Wedding' In that film, you didn't have to be Greek to think, ‘That's my family'. Jewtopia is universal like that, too."
