Paramount Pictures confirmed today that a sequel to this year's HANSEL & GRETEL: WITCH HUNTERS is officially in the works, according to Deadline.
The film, which starred Jeremy Renner and Gemma Arterton, opened on Jan. 25, telling the tale of Hansel (Renner) and Gretel (Arterton) who have become the ultimate vigilantes, hell bent on retribution after getting their first taste of blood as children. Now, unbeknownst to them, Hansel and Gretel have become the hunted, and must face an evil far greater than witches...their past. Tommy Wirkola wrote and directed the film.
HANSEL & GRETEL undewhelmed audiences in North America, opening to just $18 million. The film, however, has taken in over $200 million in worldwide sales over the past few months. Paramount reportedly believes a second investment is worth capitalizing on given its success in international markets.
According to the site, Gary Sanchez Productions is set to return for the sequel, as are principal producers Will Ferrell, Adam McKay and Kevin Messick.
