According to Variety, the Oscars film academy Board of Governors has changed the rules for the original song category to ensure that five nominees will move forward in 2013.Read the original report here. For last year's Academy Awards, just two songs were nominated. The new rules are an attempt to avoid over-narrowing the field in the process of "ensuring the integrity" of the nominations. Now, voters will receive a list of works as well as song clips, and, after viewing the samples on DVD, will rank up to five songs in order of preference. The five songs receiving the most votes from the music division will receive nominations.Additionally, the former art direction award will now be known as the production design award, due to changes by the renamed designers branch—formerly the art directors branch.
