OZ THE GREAT AND POWERFUL
It seems that OZ's magic is just slightly more powerful than BURT WONDERSTONE's wonky slight-of-hand.
Sam Raimi's fantasy adventure, a prequel to the hit film, THE WIZARD OF OZ, starring James Franco, Mila Kunis, Rachel Weisz, and Michelle Williams, took in an additional $42.2 million during its second weekend, bumping its two-week total to just over $145 million.
THE CALL, starring Halle Berry and former LITTLE MISS SUNSHINE Abigail Breslin, took the second spot this weekend, grossing $17.1 million. In the film, when veteran 911 operator, Jordan (Berry), takes a life-altering call from a teenage girl (Breslin) who has just been abducted, she realizes that she must confront a killer from her past in order to save the girl's life.
THE INCREDIBLE BURT WONDERSTONE may want to consider sticking to children's birthday parties from here on out. The film, featuring comedians Steve Carell and Jim Carrey, drew in just $10.3 million.
JACK THE GIANT SLAYER continued its ho-hum showing at the domestic box office, taking the fourth spot, and grossing just $6.2 million. Its three-week total now sits at $53.9 million.
Univeral's IDENTITY THIEF, starring Melissa McCarthy and Jason Bateman, took in another $4.5M, raising its total to a stellar $123.7M, placing it in the fifth spot this weekend.
