OSCAR Nominations: 2012's Biggest Snubs

OSCAR Nominations: 2012's Biggest Snubs

Nominations for the 85th Academy Awards were announced this morning by the show's host, Seth MacFarlane, and actress Emma Stone. Lincoln and Life of Pi led the pack of this year's contenders. Les Miserables, the film adaptation of the long-running musical also did well, receiving 7 nominations. Hugh Jackman, Denzel Washington, Amy Adams, Philip Seymour Hoffman, Anne Hathaway, Jessica Chastain and more received nominations as well.

So who was surprisingly left out of this year's nominations?

Kathryn Bigelow - Director of this year's Zero Dark Thirty received the Best Director Oscar for her last film, The Hurt Locker. This time around however, she did not receive a nomination.

Leonardo DiCaprio - Despite receiving a Supporting Actor nomination from the Golden Globes for his role of Calvin Candie in Django Unchained, the actor did not receive a nod from the Academy.

Marion Cotillard - The actress was not recognized for her performance in 2012's Rust and Bone.

Ben Affleck - Despite being a heavy favorite for Best Director of Argo, the actor-turned-director did not receive a nomination.

Rise Of The Guardians - The animated film from Dreamworks was snubbed at this year's awards.

Quentin Tarantino - As director of the controversial film Django Unchained, Tarantino received a nomination from the Golden Globes but not from the Academy.

Matthew McConaughey - The actor was praised for his performance as the owner of a male strip club in Magic Mike, yet was not recognized for a Supporting Actor nom.

Tom Hooper - Last year's Oscar pick for Best Director for the King's Speech was not rewarded for this year's blockbuster Les Miserables.

Steven Spielberg - While Lincoln was the top nominated film for the 2012, it's helmer did not receive a nod for Best Director.

Academy Awards for outstanding film achievements of 2012 will be presented on Oscar Sunday, February 24, 2013, at the Dolby Theatre at Hollywood & Highland Center, and televised live on the ABC Television Network. The Oscar presentation also will be televised live in more than 225 countries worldwide.
