According to the UK's Guardian, music promo and commercials director Michael Gracey has signed on to helm the long-awaited Elton John biopic ROCKETMAN from John's Rocket Pictures.
David Furnish and Steve Hamilton Shaw will produce the film which was created to be a musical. In a recent comment, Shaw said of Gracey, "Michael has an innovative, imaginative and compelling vision for the film."
The music legend himself describes the project as "Moulin Rouge type of stuff". Lee Hall, who penned the book for the award-winning stage musical 'Billy Elliot," has written the script. Michael Gracey is best known for his dance-oriented commercials, such as the Evian babies and the T-Mobile Flashmob spots, as well as highly choreographed teasers for Will Young's Your Game and Call My Name for Charlotte Church. Gracey will reportedly direct The Greatest Show on Earth, a PT Barnum biopic starring Hugh Jackman.
