Mark Wahlberg to Co-Produce Film Based on Coheed and Cambria Space Opera THE ARMORY WARS

According to Oh No They Didn't!, Mark Wahlberg is co-producing a film based on the band Coheed and Cambria's space opera The Armory Wars. Leverage's Steven Levinson is also co-producing.

In light of the band's metal, post-punk and pop rock and even "cinematic" sound, Coheed and Cambria's lead guitarist and lyricist Claudio Sanchez decided to publish an operatic space-themed comic book series in 2004 called The Armory Wars, via his self-created publishing company Evil Ink. The series was released in ten issues through 2008; its story followed that of Coheed's first album—"The Second Stage Turbine Blade". The band released three more albums, "In Keeping Secrets", "Good Apollo, I'm Burning Star IV, Volume 1: Fear Through the Eyes of Madness" and "No World For Tomorrow" before the last volume of the first series hit the market.

In 2010, Coheed and Cambria debuted its fifth album "The Black Rainbow", which was released at the same time with a novel of the same name by Sanchez and sci-fi writer Peter David. Right around then, Sanchez also started releasing the 12-part comic series based on Coheed's second album "In Keeping Secrets".

This (and this brief history is a very, very condensed version) all led up to this year's Comic Con in San Diego, where Mark Wahlberg announced that he would co-produce the film adaptation of The Armory Wars saga.

Casting and further details have yet to be announced.
