Kevin Coleman's OSI Wins Best Short Film at 2012 Charlotte Black Film Festival

Kevin Coleman recently won best short film at the 2012 Charlotte Black Film Festival with his film "Osi" which addresses walking away from violence in urban communities. The film was shot in Kevin's old neighborhood in north St. Louis, an area struggling with black on black gang violence.

Kevin holds an MFA in Directing from the prestigious American Film Institute, www.AFI.com, where such notables as Bill Duke (Sister Act 2, Hoodlum, and Dark Girls), Ed Zwick (Glory, The Last Samurai, Blood Diamond), and Carl Franklin (Devil in a Blue Dress, Out of Time) studied directing as well as many veteran Hollywood directors. Kevin also holds a BA in film and television from Howard University. At Howard University, Kevin studied under Bill Duke and worked as his assistant on two projects: Angel: One More Road To Cross starring R&B singer Mary J. Blige and hip hop artist DMX, and the documentary Partners of the Heart narrated by Morgan Freeman.

Kevin is CEO of Coleman Entertainment, LLC an indie film Production Company he started in 2005. His last short film "Snapshot" earned several awards and screened at the Urbanworld Film Festival, Urban Media Makers Film Festival, Worldfest Houston, Lionsgate Studios Expose Your Shorts, and won Best Short at the Hollywood Black Film Festival.

Kevin is currently working with Emmy award winning writer Renee McClellan on her script "Duffle Bag Baby" which he plans to co-produce. Kevin is also slated to work with Ms. McClellan on "Tesoro" a script that is currently under consideration at the Producer's Lab at The Sundance Institute, which she will produce. Kevin is also developing "Elon Settles" a script he co-wrote with Ms. McClellan which he plans to direct.
