James Franco Reveals 'I'd Love to Do a Musical'

In an interview with Eonline this week, OZ THE GREAT AND POWERFUL star James Franco revealed that he would have loved to display his vocal chops in the upcoming Disney adventure film.

When asked whether there was a part of him that just wanted to sing and dance during the production of the film, the Oscar-nominated actor replied, "I wouldn't mind. I'd love to do a musical." He then went on to clairfy that he may not be quite ready for the Broadway stage, commenting that he would prefer a movie "so they could augment my voice if needed."

Rachel Weisz, who plays the evil witch Evanora in Oz also confessed in the interview that she "often" thought about breaking out into a song and dance number. "I think Evanora was born to sing," she said.

Commented the film's director Sam Raimi, "I wanted to have a song and dance number but I held back. I told myself, 'This is not the Wizard of Oz. This is a separate story.'"

Disney's fantastical adventure, opening in theaters tomorrow, imagines the origins of L. Frank Baum's beloved wizard character. When Oscar Diggs (James Franco), a small-time circus magician with dubious ethics, is hurled away from dusty Kansas to the vibrant Land of Oz, he thinks he's hit the jackpot-fame and fortune are his for the taking-that is until he meets three witches, Theodora (Mila Kunis), Evanora (Rachel Weisz) and Glinda (Michelle Williams), who are not convinced he is the great wizard everyone's been expecting.

Reluctantly drawn into the epic problems facing the Land of Oz and its inhabitants, Oscar must find out who is good and who is evil before it is too late. Putting his magical arts to use through illusion, ingenuity-and even a bit of wizardry-Oscar transforms himself not only into the great and powerful wizard but into a better man as well.
