Film Society of Lincoln Center Presents AN EVENING WITH CHRISTOPHER NOLAN Tonight

Film Society of Lincoln Center Presents AN EVENING WITH CHRISTOPHER NOLAN Tonight

The Film Society of Lincoln Center and Film Comment Selects announced AN EVENING WITH Christopher Nolan, tonight, November 28th at 7:00PM. The night will focus on the making of the DARK KNIGHT films and the many more facets of his remarkable career, featuring film clips and an extended conversation moderated by Film Comment contributing editor Scott Foundas. Tickets on sale now, visit Filmlinc.com!

“It’s a great pleasure to welcome Christopher Nolan to the Film Society for this special conversation, following our recent retrospective devoted to his brilliant body of work,” said Scott Foundas. “Far more than mere ‘comic book’ movies, his DARK KNIGHT films are thrilling and sophisticated entertainments that have reinvented an immortal pop-culture icon for our own troubled times, touching on everything from global terrorism to class inequality and the financial crisis, supported by a richly human drama of one man’s struggle against his own inner demons.”

From his auspicious debut with the micro-budget FOLLOWING through to the mind-bending INCEPTION, Christopher Nolan has emerged as that rare contemporary filmmaker whose work is as intensely embraced, analyzed and debated by fanboys, critics and academics. One of the most innovative storytellers and image makers at work in movies today, Nolan has segued seamlessly from the margins of independent cinema to the top of the Hollywood A-list without compromising his artistic integrity or his desire to test the narrative possibilities of commercial movies. This is especially true of his extraordinary Dark Knight trilogy, an epic, politically and socially pointed re-imagining of the Batman franchise launched in 2005 with BATMAN BEGINS and culminating in this summer’s masterful THE DARK KNIGHT RISES.

Christopher Nolan is an award-winning filmmaker who has been recognized for his work as a director, writer and producer. In 2008, Nolan directed, co-wrote, and produced “The Dark Knight,” which went on to gross more than a billion dollars at the global box office and received worldwide critical acclaim. Nolan was nominated for a Directors Guild of America Award (DGA), Writers Guild of America Award (WGA) and Producers Guild of America Award (PGA). The film also received eight Academy Award® nominations. In 2010, Nolan captivated audiences with the acclaimed, sci-fi thriller INCEPTION, which he directed wrote and produced. Among its many honors, INCEPTION received four Academy Awards® and eight nominations, including Best Picture and Best Screenplay. Nolan was recognized by his peers with DGA and PGA Award nominations, as well as a WGA Award win for his work on the film.

Born in London, Nolan began making movies at an early age with his father’s Super-8mm camera. While studying English Literature at University College London (UCL), he shot 16mm films at UCL’s film society, where he learned the guerrilla film techniques he would later use to make his first feature, FOLLOWING. With his second film, MEMENTO, Nolan directed the independent feature from his own screenplay, which was based on a short story by his brother Jonathan. Starring Guy Pearce, the film brought Nolan numerous honors, including Academy Award® and Golden Globe Award nominations for Best Original Screenplay; Independent Spirit Awards for Best Director and Best Screenplay; and a DGA Award nomination. Nolan went on to direct the critically acclaimed psychological thriller, INSOMNIA and also directed, co-wrote and produced the mystery thriller THE PRESTIGE, which received Academy Award® nominations for its outstanding period art direction and cinematography.

Currently, Nolan is producing the much-anticipated Superman movie “Man of Steel,” which is being directed by Zack Snyder and is slated for release on June 14, 2013. Nolan and wife, Emma Thomas, helm their own Production Company, Syncopy.

Tickets are on sale now - $20 for General Public/$15 for Members/Students/Seniors. Visit Filmlinc.com for additional information.
