
The New York Post's PAGE SIX gives us this bit of screen to stage news, Cocktail the movie is being 'shaken and stirred' for a Broadway musical mounting.
The Tom Cruise is being readied for the Rialto stage by legendary producer Marty Richards. The '80s flick is being adapted by Heywood Gould, who wrote the original book and film. Gould told The Post, "I am writing it as we speak. Marty Richards is on board and he's working on the score. It's far too early to talk about casting. We haven't approached anybody yet. But I do like Katie Holmes."
Heywood Gould was the guest of honor at the 20th anniversary party for the movie last Thursday night at TGI Friday's at Penn Station.
The 20th world launch anniversary celebration featured Tom Cruise look-a-likes and bottle spinning at a T.G.I Friday's® the place where the blockbuster was filmed in Manhattan. The celebration coincidedwith Americas newest T.G.I Friday's® grand opening in Penn Station on Thursday October 22, 2009 on the Amtrack level on 33rd and 7th in Manhattan.
Press note about the event stated that, "the movie was one of the most popular films in the bar and beverage industries. Millions wanted to become bartenter's after the movie was released. Bartending Schools from across the nation still run the Tom Cruise film clips in there ads today. Heywood Gould was a former New York City reporter and bartender that wrote Fort Apache,the Bronx, Boys from Brazil and Rolling Thunder. He is a New York institution."
The Cocktail soundtrack was the smash hit summer party album of 1988, and featured the #1 hits "Don't Worry, Be Happy" by Bobby McFerrin and "Kokomo" by The Beach Boys.
