Hot on the red Ruby Slippers of OZ: THE GREAT & POWERFUL's massive box office haul last weekend - to the tune of $80 million+ - Disney is moving ahead with a reimagined, 3D, live-action BEAUTY & THE BEAST.
While initial details on the new adaptation of the classic fairy tale are sparse, reports suggest the new BEAUTY & THE BEAST - at this stage, titled simply THE BEAST - will not include musical material from the well-regarded 1989 feature film and subsequent stage show with music by Alan Menken and lyrics by Howard Ashman.
Deadline reports the film will be produced by David Hoberman and Todd Lieberman, while LouAnne Brickhouse will oversee production.
Joe Ahearne, screenwriter of Danny Boyle's forthcoming thriller TRANCE, has been chosen to pen the script and is still in negotiations with Disney at this time.
More information is available here.
Would you attend a new take on BEAUTY & THE BEAST if infused with the grand vision of Sam Raimi's OZ, knowing full well the Wonderful World of Walt was behind it all, too?
