Renowned actress and entertainer Cloris Leachman speaks to New York Magazine's 'Vulture' column about her days on ABC's Dancing With The Star, Mel Brooks, her comic "sex pact" with Ed Asner and more in a wide-ranging and witty interview.
Regarding Mel Brooks, the actress confirms that she was indeed set to join the Broadway production of YOUNG FRANKENSTEIN a week before it closed, read an excerpt below:
NY: But he said he couldn't cast you in Young Frankenstein on Broadway because he thought you'd die onstage.
CL: I thought that was very terribly sweet! I only love Mel Brooks and he only loves me. And he wanted me to join the show and we had just settled the deal and then they had to close a week later.

Leachman was most recently the Grand Marshal of the Rose Parade and a feisty show stopper on "Dancing with the Stars". Leachman, originated the role of Frau Blucher in Mel Brooks' classic film Young Frankenstein.
The actress won the Oscar for 1971's The Last Picture Show, has won eight Emmy Awards, with one for "Malcolm in the Middle" being her latest. She famously played Phyllis on "The Mary Tyler Moore Show," and her many Broadway credits include A Touch of the Poet, King of Hearts and As You Like It.
