Stage star and former Mr. Von Trapp, Christopher Plummer, will topline the new Indie film, Beginners, alsongside Ewan McGregor, Melanie Laurent (Inglorious Basterds), and Goran Visnjic (ER). Production has already begin in Los Angeles.
The film, for Olympus Pictures and Parts and Labor, is being directed by Mike Mills ("Thumbsucker"), who also penned the script. The film is being produced by Dean Vanech, Jay Von Hoy, Lars Knudsen, Leslie Urdang and Miranda de Pencier.
For now, the producers are tight-lipped on plot details.
Best known for playing Captain Von Trapp alongside Julie Andrews in the film version of The Sound of Music, Christopher Plummer has is a 7-time Tony nominee/winner. Plummer returned to the stage at The Stratford Festival of Canada in August 2008 in a critically acclaimed performance as Julius Caesar in George Bernard Shaw's "Caesar and Cleopatra" directed by Tony winner Des McAnuff (of Jersey Boys fame). The Tony-decorated pair will team up again at the Stratford Festival this upcoming summer for the Tempest, also starring Nikki M. James alongside Plummer.

Wars installments, London stage vet Ewan McGregor starred alongside Jane Krakowski, Douglas Hodge, and Jenna Russell in the original Donmar Warehouse production of Guys and Dolls in London at the Piccadilly Theatre. He played the leading role of Sky Masterson, made famous by Marlon Brando in the film, and he received the LastMinute.com award for Best Actor in 2005. He was also nominated for a Laurence Olivier Award for Best Actor in a Musical. From December 2007 to February 2008, he starred as Iago in Othello at the Donmar Warehouse alongside Chiwetel Ejiofor as Othello and Kelly Reilly as Desdemona,a role he will reprise on BBC Radio 3 in May 2008.
