Deadline.com reports that Christina Ricci will star in the upcoming Sarah Spillane Australian Indie film AROUND THE BLOCK. The film marks the feature debut for writer, director Spillane. Ricci recently made her Broadway debut in TIME STANDS STILL.
The film will be set in an inner-city during a period of rioting by Aboriginal residents. Ricci will portray an American drama teacher who helps out a troubled Aboriginal teenager. Hunter Page-Lochard will portray the teen who is pressured to participating in a revenge killing. Jack Thompson, executive producer on the film, will also star along with Damian Walshe-Howling.
Spillane’s Kick Pictures and BrIan Rosen and Su Armstrong’s Tree Films are set to produce. The producers will apply for funding from the agencies Screen Australia and Screen NSW.
Filming is set to begin this Monday, June 18th in Sydney.
