Christina Applegate is mulling over marrying into the Griswold family.
The actress, who recently departed NBC's UP ALL NIGHT, is in late negotiations to star opposite Ed Helms in New Line Cinema's upcoming reboot/sequel to National Lampoon's iconic VACATION series, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
John Francis Daley and Jonathan Goldstein (Horrible Bosses) are both set to pen the script and direct the film. David Dobkin will produce.
The Griswold family became a household name with the first entry into the franchise, NATIONAL LAMPOON's VACATION, starring Chevy Chase and Bevery D'Angelo. It went on to spawn the sequels CHRISTMAS VACATION and VEGAS VACATION.
In this updated version, the film follows Clark and Ellen Griswold's son, Rusty, (Helms) "as he takes his family on a similar road trip that his family took when he was young."
Applegate would portray his strong, independent wife whose love for him is slowly waning.
As of now, there's no word as to whether Chevy Chase will reprise his role as patriarcH Clark in the reboot.

In addition to her screen work, Applegate has performed on stage in such productions as The Axeman's Jazz, Nobody Leaves Empty Handed, and The Runthrough, as well as John Cassavetes' The Third Day (co-starring Gena Rowlands). In 2004, she debuted on the Broadway stage playing the title role of Charity Hope Valentine in a revival of the 1966 musical Sweet Charity. She eventually took home the 2005 Theatre World Award and was nominated for a 2005 Tony Award for Best Actress in a Musical.
Helms is best known for his role as Andy Bernard on the sitcom/mockumentary The Office on NBC and for his role as Dr. Stu Price in The Hangover films.
