Stage vet and former Murphy Brown, Candice Bergen, will be among those inducted into the Television Academy's Hall of Fame in the 19th annual induction ceremony.
Each year, the Television Academy honors pioneers who have helped shape television either in front of or behind the camera. The Hall of Fame honors actors, comics, directors, producers, costume designers, writers, animators, executives, reporters, explorers-and the list goes on and on, covering the gamut of talent that it takes to entertain, inform and enrich a mass audience.
Additional inductees into the Hall of Fame include late "Star Trek" creator Gene Roddenberry, comedy duo Tom and Dick Smothers, "Saturday Night Live" and game show announcer Don Pardo, "The Price is Right" game show creator Bob Stewart and Emmy-award winning art director Charles Lisanby for the annual ceremony.
"This year's inductees have challenged and shaped popular culture and entertained us royally while doing so," said Television Academy chairman John Shaffner.
Bergen is best known for her role in the 1990s CBS comedy Murphy Brown, for which she won five Emmy Awards and two Golden Globe Awards as Best Actress in a TV Comedy. She's also well-known for her role on the legal comedy-drama Boston Legal as Shirley Schmidt. She was nominated twice for an Emmy and once for a Golden Globe and Screen Actors Guild Award respectively for this role. She has starred in major films including The Sand Pebbles, Carnal Knowledge, The Wind and the Lion, and Gandhi, receiving an Oscar nomination for her role in Starting Over. She has also made guest appearances on many other TV shows, including Seinfeld, Law & Order, Family Guy, Will & Grace, and Sex and the City. She has appeared on Broadway in Hurleyburly.
