CBS Films has picked up the rights to a gender-swapped version of the Charles Dickens' novel, OLIVER TWISTED, The Hollywood Reporter has announced.
This modern take on the literary (and musical) classic comes from screenwriter Michael Roberts, former stuntman. Set in a gothic, neo-urban city, the film follows Olivia, the leader of a young gang who gets caught up in a turf war between two rival kingpins after a botched kidnapping. Ashley Greene was in talks to take on the lead role at one time, but it's unclear if the TWILIGHT actress is still attached.
Michael De Luca and Alissa Phillips are set to produce the modern reinterpretation.
Writer Michael Roberts, in his stunt days, has previously worked on other projects with strong female characters, including BUFFY THE VAMPIRE SLAYER and ALIAS.
