For his third go as a director, Antonio Banderas is set to helm ALKI, a love story in which his wife, Melanie Griffith, will star. Variety first broke the news this afternoon.
Also written by Banderas, the film (which he will also fully-finance) will follow an African boy who travels to Spain in a small boat in an effort to escape the police. Once there, he is rescued by an American woman (Griffith.)
"This is a love story between two completely different people -- in age, attitude, religion, wealth -- who end up being essential to each other," Banderas told the publication today.
