
ELLE Magazine annouced its eight honorees yesterday for its 16th Annual Women in Hollywood Tribute. The distinguished ladies include: Julie Andrews, Emily Blunt, Katie Holmes, Julianne Moore, Zoe Saldana, Robin Wright Penn, Renee Zellweger and casting director Bonnie Timmerman. The event will be held at the Beverly Hills Four Seasons Hotel.
ELLE editor-in-chief Roberta Myers said of this year's list: "This is an incredibly strong, distinguished group of women, many of them icons, or icons to be. We are so proud to bring them together and celebrate their remarkable contribution to the industry."
Past recipients are a virtual who's who of powerhouse women in the industry, including Meryl Streep, Cate Blanchett, Charlize Theron, Halle Berry and Gwyneth Paltrow. Celebs who attend the October 19 celebration will be asked to sign a bottle of Möet & Chandon champagne that will be auctioned off for charity.
Julie Andrews made her Broadway debut in 1954's THE BOY FRIEND. In 1956 she appeared in MY FAIR LADY, CAMELOT in 1960 and VICTOR/VICTORIA in 1995, all in starring roles she made famous. Andrews is well known for her performance of Maria in the movie THE SOUND OF MUSIC. She has be in dozens of shows and successful films for which she has received the highest accolades, including The Kennedy Center Honor.
Katie Holmes, though best known for her role as Mrs. Cruise as of late appeared on Broadway in last season's ALL MY SONS. After rising to fame playing Joey on "Dawson's Creek," she has since gone on to star in doezens of successful films, including "Batman Begins."
Julianne Moore, on the the most successful film actresses of all time, appeared on Broadway in 2006's The Verticle Hour to critical acclaim. 1987 she was part of the junior company in the New York premiere of Caryl Churchill's Serous Money at The Public Theater and has starred in numerous stage productions since. She appearred in the high profile films "Boogie Nights" and "The Hours," amongst many others.
