A GOOD DAY TO DIE HARD officially beat out the competition at this weekend's box office, proving that nothing can put down the franchise, or John McClane.
Despite the lackluster reviews, the latest outing in the franchise starring Bruce Willis took in approximately $25 million. In the latest flick, McClane faces his greatest challenge ever, this time on an international stage, when his estranged son Jack is caught up in the daring prison escape of a rogue Russian leader, and father and son McClane must work together to keep each other alive and keep the world safe for democracy.
DIE HARD bested the latest Nicholas Sparks romance, SAFE HAVEN, starring Josh Duhamel and Julianne Hough, which took the third spot with $21.4 million.
Jason Bateman and Melissa McCarthy's IDENTITY THIEF, which claimed the number one spot last weekend, came in second with an additional $23.4 million, boosting its two-week total to $70.7M.
ESCAPE FROM PLANET EARTH and WARM BODIES rounded out the top five with $16 million and $9 million, respectively. The undead romantic comedy has now grossed over $50 million since it opened on Feb. 1.
